Winson Ho, MD

Dr. Winson Ho is an associate professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery and a pediatric neurosurgeon in the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. While his clinical work covers the whole spectrum of neurosurgery, he specializes in the neurosurgical care of children with brain tumors, epilepsy, and trauma. His research focuses on developing novel immunotherapies for the treatment of brain tumors, with a particular interest in studying the role of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) in modulating anti-tumor immunity and translating the preclinical work to novel therapeutics for pediatric brain tumors. Ho’s previous research has identified that PP2A regulates immune suppression in T cells in multiple tumor models including brain tumor. Based on those findings, a Phase II trial of PP2A inhibitor is ongoing at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for recurrent glioblastoma.

Dr. Ho received his M.D. from Yale University School of Medicine and completed his residency in the joint neurosurgery program of the University of Virginia and the National Institutes of Health, where he served as a clinical and research fellow at the National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in the Surgical Neurology Branch. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Intermountain Primary Children’s Medical Center at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.Before joining UCSF, Dr. Ho was an Assistant Professor at Dell Medical School UT Austin. Dr. Ho received NIH/NINDS Neurosurgeon Research Career Development Program K12 Award in 2019 and Pediatric Section Research Award from AANS/CNS Joint Section in 2020.
